#10 Columbia Defeats Women's Soccer in 2017 NAIA National Tournament Opening Round

COLUMBIA, Mo. – In a cold, rainy match, the Siena Heights women's soccer team fell 1-0 to the 10th-ranked Columbia (Mo.) in the Opening Round of the 2017 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament.

Both the Saints and the Cougars each had decent opportunities in the first half although the score remained tied 0-0 through the half.

The difference came in the 56th-minute as Laurie Frew netted the lone shot for CC in the second half, which was a bouncing ball in the box.

Siena Heights and Columbia each took eight shots a piece, the Saints outshooting the Cougars 7-2 in the second half. Taylor Mulder led SHU with two shots, both on frame. For CC, Frew managed four shots, three on goal.

In goal, Meghan Bogg made three saves for Siena Heights. Winning-goalkeeper Madison Boyken stopped four shots for Columbia.

Siena Heights ends their season with a 12-7-2 record, falling in the Opening Round of the 2017 NAIA Women's Soccer National Tournament after defeating No. 2 Northwestern Ohio for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Tournament Championship. Columbia is 21-1-0 and advances to the second round, playing the winner of No. 7 Westmont and Eastern Oregon.
