Gordon Efforts Lift Women's Soccer Over Madonna in WHAC Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Kathryn Gordon scored twice in the second half to lift the Siena Heights women's soccer team 2-0 over Madonna in the opening game of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play, on Saturday.

Gordon and the Saints (4-4, 1-0 WHAC) struck in the 77th and 79th-minute as both goals happened one minutes and 35 seconds a part. The game-winning goal came as Samantha Bartelotti slotted a ball across the 18-yard box and Gordon finished back post. From the sideline, Danielle Eastman sent a well-placed ball to the back post where Gordon headed the ball home.

Leading the Saints in shots was Erin Scheidel with three shots while Emily Burkman, Haylie Curtiss, Bartelotti and Gordon each took two shots for SHU. Julia Henning managed three shots for MU while Emma Camp, Nicolette Vultaggio and Jamie Moceri all took two shots.

Meghan Bogg earned the win for the Saints, making seven saves to keep a clean sheet. Stopping six shots for Madonna (5-2-1, 0-1 WHAC) was keeper Julia Stewart.

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday as the Saints continue WHAC play with a 7 p.m. match in Ann Arbor.
