Women's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Missouri Baptist

The Siena Heights women's soccer team dropped its season opener, 3-2, to Missouri Baptist, on Monday.

Opening the scoring was the Spartans in the 37th minute as Haylee Eastridge slotted one past Saints' goalkeeper Taylor Hill. SHU responded with a goal from Haylie Curtiss in the 43rd minute, finishing a cross from Jennifer Richmond to tie the game 1-1 heading into halftime.

MBU (1-0) opened the scoring in the second half as Eastridge finished a breakaway at 49:24, but Samantha Bartelotti fired back for the Saints with a 35-yard shot beating the Spartans' keeper just over two minutes later. Eastridge completed her hat-trick as she again scored on a breakaway in the 85th minute to win it for MBU.

Leading the Saints (0-1) with four shots was Taylor Mulder while Curtiss and Bartelotti each netted a goal. Eastridge had nine shots for Missouri Baptist.

In net for SHU, Hill stopped six shots while winning goalkeeper Alexandra Lair made eight saves for MBU.

The Saints will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to Lindenwood-Belleville (Mo.) for a 5 p.m. EST contest.
