Women's Soccer Drops Three on Trip to Italy

FLORENCE, Italy, and VITERBO, Italy -- The Siena Heights women's soccer team played three contests, dropping two games to Firenze on May 7 and one game to Lazio on May 11.

The Saints played back-to-back games by scores of 2-0 and 3-1 on Firenze's home field.

Alexis Donnelly scored the day's only goal for Siena Heights, giving the Saints a 1-0 halftime lead before Firenze ran off three second-half goals. Goalkeeper Crystal Wilcoxen had eight saves for the Saints, who were outshot, 24-9.

In the day's opener, Siena Heights goalie Caitlyn Kort stopped four shots. SHU was outshot, 22-6.

Later in the trip, SHU fell to Lazio, 3-2, during a contest in Viterbo. Kelsey Young had a goal and assist for the Saints. Kacey Lawniczak also scored.

Lawniczak converted her goal on a corner kick by Young in the 35th minute. Young curved another corner during the 70th, trimming a two-goal deficit to 3-2, but the Saints were unable to manage an equalizer.

Wilcoxen had three saves against Lazio, which held a 9-7 advantage.
