Women's Lacrosse Takes on Cumberlands to Open NAIA Invitational Action

The Siena Heights women's lacrosse team is set to take on Cumberlands (Ky.) in the opening round of the 2018 NAIA Women's Lacrosse National Invitational, on Wednesday. In the eight-team tournament, SHU plays in the second game of the day with a 1 p.m. start time. WHAC member Aquinas is hosting the event in Grand Rapids.

The Saints ended the regular season with a 13-2 record before losing to Indiana Tech in the WHAC Tournament semifinal, to bring their overall record to 13-3 as they enter the tournament. Cumberlands holds an overall record of 19-1 with their lone loss of the season coming from top-ranked SCAD Savannah (Ga.).

Leading Siena Heights with 62 goals and five assists is Jenna Sommerville while picking up 21 groundballs. Marissa Cirino and Taylor Swartz each have 42 goals so far while Cirino holds 30 assists and Swartz has 20. Kayla Parks has earned 99 draw controls and 66 groundballs to lead SHU as she's scored 39 goals and nine assists. Goalies Lizzy Elliot and Mariah Smythe have each played in 14 games for the Saints, Elliott with a .515 save percentage while Smythe has a .476 save percentage.

Samantha Tullar leads the Patriots with 105 goals and 47 assists while scoring 84.3 percent of her shots on goal. Tullar also leads UC with 448 groundballs and 132 draw controls. Next is Jaclyn Berry, managing 87 goals and 44 assists with 27 caused turnovers and 37 groundballs. Emily Crump has started in 18 of the 19 games for Cumberlands, earning a .565 save percentage while averaging 7.67 goals against.
