#5 Women's Lacrosse Grabs Overtime Victory over Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. – The No. 5 Siena Heights women's lacrosse defeated Aquinas in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Saturday in overtime.

The Saints (9-2, 2-1 WHAC) led early and opened their lead to four goals. Aquinas scored the final three goals of the first half to send the game into halftime, tied at seven.

With 4:06 remaining in regulation, Siena Heights led by two goals but AQ was not finished. Aquinas scored two goals within a minute of each other and tied the game with 2:49 to go. Neither team was able to break the tie, so the game was sent into overtime.

Jenna Sommerville scored the golden goal for the Saints with the assist coming from Taylor Swartz in overtime, lifting SHU to a 17-16 victory over Aquinas.

Kayla Parks and Sommerville led the Saints with five goals each. Sommerville added one assist to go along with her five goals, including the game winner. Marissa Cirino and Taylor Swartz each finished with a team high, two assists.

In goal, Lizzy Elliott earned the win, allowing four goals and making one save on five shots faced. Mariah Smythe made ten saves while facing 22 shots.

Lauren Sanford and Anna Curcuru each scored six goals for Aquinas (9-2, 2-1 WHAC). Curcuru added a team leading two assists. McKenna Maltby suffered the loss in goal, allowing 17 goals and making 14 saves while facing 31 shots.

Next up, Siena Heights will host Cleary on Sunday, April 8. Game time is set for 2 p.m.
