#4 Women's Lacrosse Defeats Ohio Northern in Non-Conference Contest

ADA, Ohio -- The No. 4 Siena Heights women's lacrosse team traveled to take on Ohio Northern in a non-conference contest on Thursday. The Saints won the contest, 12-9.

The Polar Bears scored the first three goals of the game but the Saints scored the next three, and tied the contest. ONU scored one more before halftime and sent them into the break with a 4-3 advantage over the Saints.

Early in the second half, Siena Heights (4-1 overall) scored five unanswered goals and gained the lead, 8-5. Ohio Northern scored a few more but SHU scored the final three goals to settle the contest.

Marissa Cirino led the Saints with five goals. Jenna Sommerville and Kayla Parks each contributed one assist. Lizzy Elliott earned the start in goal for Siena Heights, making four saves. Mariah Smythe replaced Elliott in goal in the second half and completed five saves.

For the Polar Bears (3-3 overall), Betsy Naugle and Jacqui Lohman each scored three goals. Rachel Shipman chipped in two assists. Kelli Hill started in goal for ONU and made 11 saves. Shannen Larsen Van Alstine was the Ohio Northern goalkeeper for the final 5:08 and suffered the loss and made one save.

Next up, the Saints will take on No. 3 Lawrence Tech on Saturday, Mar. 17. Game time is set for 1 p.m.
