Sabourin's OT Game-Winner Lifts #9 Women's Lax Over Aquinas

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Madison Sabourin's game-winning goal in the third overtime period lifted the ninth-ranked Siena Heights women's lacrosse team to a 15-14 win over Aquinas in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday at O'Laughlin Stadium.

Sabourin was SHU's leading scorer, finishing with five goals, one assist and nine draw controls.

Aliisa Mason added four goals and one assist while Sabrina Snow compiled two goals, one assist, four draw controls and three caused turnovers.

Also, Sydney VanHoose and Erin Kehn scored two goals apiece. VanHoose added three caused turnovers, Kehn picked up five groundballs and Cindy Bradford recorded an assist.

Tabitha Ferguson was the winning goalkeeper, tallying nine saves and five groundballs.

The teams traded the lead three times during the first half before forging a 6-6 tie.

In the second, SHU had four consecutive goals to grab a 10-6 advantage before visiting Aquinas (1-4, 0-2) answered with six straight scores to take a 12-10 lead.

The Saints enjoyed a 3-1 stretch led by a pair of Sabourin goals -- the second coming with 4:51 left in regulation -- to knot the contest at 13-all.

Hannah Crosby gave Aquinas the first lead of overtime, scoring off an assist from Alexandra Burns with two seconds remaining in the first three-minute OT period.

Mason then scored 15 seconds in the second three-minute OT, getting a pass from Snow, and the teams then remained tied 14-14.

Sabourin's winner occured 1:23 into the third extra period, which involved sudden-victory rules.

Crosby was Aquinas' leading scorer with six points and three assist. Alexandra Burns had four goals and two assists and Jennifer Adams tallied two goals and two assists.

Also for the visitors, Alyssa Chartier and Annie Quinn picked up four groundballs each in support of goalie Lucy Montanero, who finished with 10 saves.

Siena Heights (3-2, 1-2) will be in action next on Wednesday when nationally-ranked Lawrence Tech visits for a 7 p.m. WHAC contest.
