Women's Basketball's Upset Bid Falls Short Against #15 Rio Grande

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team had its upset bid fall just short as fell to 15th-ranked Rio Grande on Saturday at Lawrence Tech's Blue Devil Classic.

Brooke Rebman led the Saints (1-1) with 26 points, eight rebounds and three steals while E'Anna Won chipped in with 16 points and six rebounds.

Madison Vice added 15 points and Lauren DeWolf scored 14.

SHU trailed by 46-34 early in the third quarter before taking the lead with a 17-4 run, going up 51-50. The Saints outscored Rio, 25-12, in the third, getting eight points from Rebman.

Siena Heights stretched its largest lead out to 63-57 before the RedStorm chipped away. Rio Grande (2-0) took the lead for good with an 8-0 run, turning a 67-62 deficit into a 70-67 lead.

The Saints had the final possession, down by three, but a 3-point attempt from Vice missed the mark.

Siena Heights will return to action with its first WHAC contest -- and home opener -- on Tuesday when Defiance visits the SHU Fieldhouse for a 7:30 p.m. tip.
