Hinton Scores 25, DeLong Doubles as Women's Hoops Wins 12th Straight

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Kayla Hinton scored 25 points as the Siena Heights women's basketball team took a 78-58 victory over WHAC opponent Cornerstone on Saturday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Hinton also had seven rebounds, six assists and three steals while Olivia DeLong recorded a double-double with 14 points, 11 rebounds and three blocks.

Jillian Gelso added 11 points and Jakarri Alven grabbed 11 rebounds for the Saints (12-2, 7-1), who won their 12th straight game.

Siena Heights never trailed after taking a 6-0 lead to start the game as Alven put in fourth points in that early stretch.

The Saints led 25-19 after the first quarter and never caved each of the three moments Cornerstone made it a one-possession game.

The Golden Eagles (7-6, 5-3) pulled within 27-25 and 31-28 in the second quarter and, later in the third, closed the score to 45-42 before SHU ended the third with a 12-4 stretch. Gelso buried a pair of 3-pointers and Hinton tallied five points in that momentum-shifting run.

The Saints held a 57-46 lead through three quarters and led by as many as 24 in the fourth. SHU outrebounded the Golden Eagles, 48-33.

"Our team stepped up after a disappointing first half," Saints coach Sue Syljebeck said. "We did a great job rebounding the basketball against Cornerstone's post players."

Siena Heights will return to play on Wednesday with a 6 p.m. game against conference opponent Michigan-Dearborn.
