Saints Cruise Past Crosstown Rival Adrian for Fourth Win This Season

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team cruised to a 66-36 victory over crosstown rival Adrian College in the SHU Fieldhouse on Tuesday night. Kiana Votava scored 14 points and hauled in five rebounds to lead the Saints in the win.

THE BASICS

Final Score: Siena Heights 66, Adrian 36

HOW IT HAPPENED

The score remained close throughout the first quarter as both teams came out cold to begin the game. The Saints shot 4-14 (28.6%) from the floor while the Bulldogs were 3-11 (27.3%). Siena edged Adrian 12-9 at the end of the opening 10 minutes.

The Saints defense turned up the pressure in the second quarter tallying seven steals and forcing the Bulldogs to commit 13 turnovers. Siena outscored Adrian 18-0 in the second quarter to build a 30-9 lead at the half.

Emily Somerville led the Bulldog rally in the third quarter as she hit four three-point jumpers to score 12 of Adrian's 18 points in the third, but the deficit was too much as the Saints still held a 56-27 lead going into the final quarter.

Siena just outscored Adrian, 10-9, in the fourth quarter to finish the game strong and seal the lopsided victory.

TOP SAINTS

• Votava went 6-9 from the floor and 2-2 from the charity stripe to lead the Saints in scoring. She also led the team in steals with four and had the third-most rebounds (5) in the game.

Alyssa Larson continued to be a force off the bench with 11 points and four rebounds on her stat line. 

Haley Hoffman also contributed with 10 points and three rebounds off the bench. 

Sharmaine Wills led the team in rebounds with nine rebounds while also recording six points, three assists, and two steals.

Demi Russell finished with eight points, six rebounds, and two steals.

THE OPPOSITION

• Somerville was the Bulldogs leading scorer with 17 points. She was 6-12 from the floor and 5-8 from behind the arc while also leading the team with four rebounds.

• Rachel Bucher finished with seven points, two rebounds, two assists, and two steals.

• Katie Crawford tied for a team-high two steals while also registering five points off the bench.

UP NEXT

The Saints host Wright State-Lake on Saturday, November 24, in the SHU Thanksgiving Tournament. The tourney kicks off with Wilberforce versus St. Xavier (Ill.) at 2:00 p.m. The Saints will end day one with the game against the Lakers at 4:00 p.m.
