Women's Basketball Closes Regular Season Play With a Win Over Madonna

SOUTHFIELD, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team faced off against Madonna in the regular season finale on Saturday. The Saints came away with the victory, 77-56. 

A strong first quarter, set SHU apart from the beginning. Siena Heights (18-12, 11-9 WHAC) scored 20 points in the frame, while holding the Crusaders to eight. The Saints remained in control for the rest of the contest and brought home the win. 

Clara Waidley led the Saints offense with 18 points on 6-11 (54%) shooting from three point range. Azalea Miller added 15 points, five assists and five rebounds while Alyssa Larson added 14 points. Demi Russell and Taylar McNeal led the Saints in rebounds with six. 

Madonna (10-18, 6-14 WHAC) was led by Becca Sabol with 26 points, six rebounds and three assists. 

Siena Heights finished the game shooting 39-50 (50.8%)  from the floor, 10-24 (41.7%) from three point range and 7-9 (77.8%) from the charity stripe. The Crusaders connected on 18-54 (33.3%) from the field, 3-18 (16.7%) from behind the arc and 17-24 (70.8%) from the free throw line. 

Next up, the Saints will enter Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament play where they will take on Lawrence Tech in the opening round. SHU ended the regular season with the seventh seed in the WHAC while LTU took the second seed. The Blue Devils will host the contest on Thursday, Feb. 22 with a tip off set for 7 p.m. The winner will advance to the WHAC tournament semifinals set for Saturday, Feb. 24.
