Strong Second Half Propels Women's Basketball to Victory Over GLCC

ADRIAN, Mich. -- A strong second half propelled the Siena Heights women's basketball team to a 75-55 victory over non-conference opponent Great Lakes Christian, on Monday.

The Lakes (2-19) scored the first points of the gamegoing up 5-0 before the Saints responded. SHU (14-11) battled back and led at the end of the first 9-7. The second half was a tight contest, SHU leading 20-18 with only 2:25 on the clock. A couple baskets by Syarra Sellers put the Saints back on track, managing a 26-20 halftime lead. Siena Heights started the second half with a 13-3 run and kept rolling from there.

Leading Siena Heights (with a double-double was Alyssa Larson, earning 18 rebounds and 14 points for SHU. Also scoring in double-digits for the Saints was Sellers and Demi Russell with 12 and 10 points, respectively. GLCC was led by Brianna Mayes with 24 points and four steals. Kariontae Victor had 14 points while Sha'Kerria Walker managed 10.

From the floor, Siena Heights shot 29-78 (37.2%) while going 5-25 (20.0%) in three-point land and 12-19 (63.2%) from the free throw line. The Lakes shot 17-61 (27.9%) overall, managing 5-21 (23.8%) behind the arc and 16-24 (66.7%) at the line.

Siena Heights will travel to Cornerstone on Wednesday for a 5:30 p.m. Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest.
