McNeal and Russell Double-Doubles Not Enough For Women's Basketball to Overcome #19 Lawrence Tech

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Double-doubles from Taylar McNeal and Demi Russell was not enough for the Saints to overcome No. 19 Lawrence Tech in the annual Pink game for breast cancer awareness on Saturday. Siena Heights dropped the contest, 70-57.

SHU was held to just eight points in the first quarter while LTU poured in 19 to give them an 11 point lead after one. The Saints picked up scoring in the second, but still went into halftime trailing 37-22.

With 6:52 remaining in the contest, Siena Heights (13-11, 7-8 WHAC) was able to reduce the Lawrence Tech lead to single digits, bringing the score to 55-46. The Blue Devils hit the next basket, extending their lead to 11 and maintained from there.

In the game, Siena Heights went 21-65 (32.3%) from the floor, 2-10 (20%) from three and 13-19 (68.4%) from the free throw line. Lawrence Tech (20-4, 12-3 WHAC) connected on 26-71 (36.6%) attempts from the field, 6-24 (25%) from three and 12-17 (70.6%) from the charity stripe.

Two Saints finished with double-doubles, led by Taylar McNeal with 12 points and 13 rebounds. Demi Russell added ten points and ten rebounds. Alyssa Larson and Azalea Miller each also contributed double figure scoring with 11 a piece. Three Saints dished out two assists -- Anaya Powell, Miller and Russell. Larson finished with a career high, four blocks in the contest.

No. 19 Lawrence Tech was led by Nicole Buckingham with 20 points. Rachel Price pulled down a team high, nine boards. Danielle Hanson and Cherilyn Banas each finished with three assists.

Next up, the Saints will host Great Lakes Christian in a non-conference contest on Monday, Jan. 29. Tip off is set for 8 p.m.
