Women's Basketball Hangs On For Victory Over Lourdes In WHAC Play

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Lourdes in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday. The Saints won the thriller, 73-68.

To open the contest, Lourdes knocked down three, three point baskets in a row to jump out to a 9-0 start. The Saints fought back, tying the score with 2:55 remaining in the first quarter and then taking the lead about 30 seconds later. Scores and leads were traded, sending the game into halftime, all tied up at 32 a piece.

At the end of the third period, the Gray Wolves led by four points, but the Saints were not finished. With 5:35 left in the contest, Siena Heights took the lead on a jump shot made by Addyson Tomczak and was able to hang on from there. Lourdes eventuallt tied the ball game at 68 with 50 seconds left to go, but Azalea Miller was able to hit the final go-ahead basket with 31 seconds left to send the Saints on their way to victory.

From the floor, SHU connected on 26-68 (38.2%) attempts, 7-17 (41.2%) from three and 14-22 (63.6%) from the free throw line. Lourdes finished 24-66 (36.4%) from the field, 11-28 (39.3%) from behind the arc and 9-16 (56.3%) from the charity stripe.

Leading the way for Siena Heights was Azalea Miller and Addyson Tomczak, each with 18 points. On the glass, SHU was led by Alyssa Larson who was able to pull down 14 rebounds. Syarra Sellers contributed five assists.

Sydney Miller and Sara Semler each scored 14 for Lourdes while Christiana Jefferson grabbed seven rebounds. Miller also led the Gray Wolves by dishing out five assists.

Next up, Siena Heights will host No. 9 Indiana Tech in a WHAC match-up on Saturday, Jan. 13. Tip off is set for 3 p.m.
