Larson, Wills Lift Women's Basketball to Victory Over Rochester

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team took on Rochester in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Wednesday. The Saints grabbed the victory, 72-63.

To open the game, the Saints jumped out to a 21-18 lead after the first period. In the second, SHU was held to 10 points and gave up 16 in the frame to give Rochester the 34-31 advantage entering the break.

Siena Heights was able to tie the ball game with 4:56 remaining in the third quarter on a three point basket by Syarra Sellers. 26 second later, Sharmaine Wills knocked down a jump shot to give SHU the lead. Later in the third, RC regained the lead but was quickly taken back by Siena Heights with 2:28 to go in the third, and the Saints were able to hang on from there.

Alyssa Larson led the Saints with her first career double-double and career high in scoring and rebounds with 18 points and 13 rebounds. Sharmaine Wills added 18 points and seven boards, while Clara Waidley and Syarra Sellers added 15 and 11 respectively. Azalea Miller finished with a team high four assists.

Siena Heights shot 25-61 (41%) from the floor, 6-19 (31.6%) from three and 16-32 (50%) from the free throw line. Rochester knocked down 18-58 from the field (31%), 9-28 from behind the arc (32.1%) and 18-24 (75%) from the charity stripe.

Next up, the Saints will host Michigan-Dearborn on Saturday, Dec. 2. Game time is set for 5:30 p.m.
