ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights women's basketball team fell 78-67 in the 2017 Siena Heights Thanksgiving Tournament to Pikeville (Ky.), on Saturday, in non-conference action.

The visiting Bears started out strong, jumping to a quick 11-5 lead in the first quarter. Four points in a row by Demi Russell helped SHU to earn a 13-11 lead at the end of the first quarter.

To begin the second quarter, Pikeville went on an 11-2 run to lead 24-15 with 4:44 remaining in the quarter. The Saints fought back to come within one at halftime, UPIKE leading 28-17.

A strong third quarter by the Bears helped them to a 49-38 lead over Siena Heights. The Saints weren't done, cutting their deficit to three points with 6:37 left in the game after an Addyson Tomczak three-pointer. The Bears again took over with a quick run, and held on through the remainder of the contest.

Leading Siena Heights with 15 points was Tomczak, hitting 5-of-12 three-pointers. Azalea Miller managed 14 points, seven rebounds and an assist while Ashley Perry added 11 points, six rebounds and three assists. For the Bears, Jamie Castle earned 24 points, three assists and two steals to lead the game. Kayla Mullins tallied 14 points and two rebounds.

As a team, Siena Heights shot 21-67 (31.3%) while going 8-24 (33.3%) behind the arc and 17-23 (73.9%) from the free throw line. UPIKE went 26-56 (46.6%) from the floor, 7-19 (36.8%) in three-point land and 19-20 (95.0%) from the charity stripe.

Making the All-Tournament Team for the Saints was Miller and Tomczak. Other All-Tournament honorees were Chloe Salman from Indiana-Northwest, Rachel Lee from UPIKE and Tournament Most Valuable Player Jamie Castle from Pikeville.

Next up, the Saints will host Rochester on Wednesday in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest.  The game is part of the Annual Hunger Game double-header, beginning with the women at 6 p.m. and followed by the men at 8 p.m.
