#22 Women's Basketball Defeats Crosstown Rival, Adrian

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The #22 Siena Heights women's basketball team traveled across town to take city rival, Adrian. The Saints won the battle 70-57.

After one, the Saints (1-5 overall) led by two points but Adrian's hot second quater gave the Bulldogs (0-2 overall) at 37-28 lead at halftime. Siena Heights exploded out of the break scoring 27 points in the third period and holding AC to 12. After three, the Saints had regained the 55-49 advantage. In the fourth quarter, SHU held Adrian to eight points and scored 15 of their own, sealing the victory.

Alyssa Larson led the Saints offense with 16 points. She also added a team high nine rebounds and two blocks. Demi Russell was close behind, adding 15 points and grabbing five rebounds. Also scoring in double-figures was Syarra Sellers with 12 points. 

From the floor, Siena Heights shot 25-63 (39.7%), 4-19 (21.1%) from three and 16-24 (66.7%) from the free throw line. Adrian knocked in 22-58 of their attempts from the field (37.9%), 7-21 (33.3%) from behind the arc and 6-7 (85.7%) from the charity stripe.

Next up, SHU will host it's annual Thanksgiving Tournament on Friday and Saturday. The Saints will take on Goshen (Ind.) in the first round on Friday, Nov. 24. Tip off is set for 7 p.m. Pikeville (Ky.) and No. 18 Indiana Northwest will face off in the other first round contest. The winners of each of the first round games will compete in the championship game on Saturday, Nov. 25 at 4 p.m. A consolation game will be played at 2 p.m.
