Women's Basketball Drops Contest to Cornerstone in WHAC Play

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The #22 Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Cornerstone in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference opener on Saturday. The Saints dropped the contest 67-58.

A strong second quarter for the Golden Eagles widened the margin, as they scored 25 points in the frame. The Saints went into halftime with a 40-30 deficit. Siena Heights battled and was able to close the gap to six points with 5:42 remaining in the third period. The Golden Eagles were able to hold off the Saints for the rest of the contest and walk away with the win.

Demi Russell led the Saints with a double-double -- 13 points and 11 rebounds. Two other Saints finished with double figure scoring, Clara Waidley added 11 while Azalea Miller tacked on 14 points, also leaded the team with three assists.

Siena Heights finished 22-60 (36.7%) from the floor and 5-19 (26.3%) from behind the arc. At the free throw line the Saints shot 9-13 (69.2%). Cornerstone knocked down 26-65 shots from the field for 40% and 5-17 from three for 29.4%. From the charity stripe the Golden Eagles finished 10-16 (62.5%).

Next up, the Saints will travel to take on St. Francis (Ind.) on Monday, Nov. 13. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
