#22 Women's Basketball Falls to Spring Arbor in Season Opener

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The No. 22 Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Spring Arbor to open the 2017-18 season on Tuesday. The Saints dropped the non-conference contest by a score of 69-84.

After the first quarter SHU (0-1 overall) trailed by just four points putting the score at 16-12. The Saints scored 12 points again in the second to the 21 scored in the frame by the Cougars (2-2 overall), widening the gap to 43-24 at the half.

The Saints were able to make up some ground in the third period, going into the fourth, decreasing the deficit to seven points with 3:24 remaining in the game.

The SAU shooting was the difference, going 13-26 (50%) from behind the arc and shooting 23-56 for 41.1% from the floor on the game. The Saints finished 22-61 (36.1%) from the floor and 5-19 for 26.3% from three point range.

Ashley Perry led the Saints offense with 19 points. Two other Saints scoring in double figures was Alyssa Larson and Demi Russell each adding ten. Leading Siena Heights on the glass was Sharmaine Wills, pulling down 14 rebounds, also contributing eight points. Azalea Miller finished with a team high, three assists.

Next up, SHU will host Cornerstone to open Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference play on Saturday, Nov. 11. Tipoff is set for 5:30 p.m.
