#22 Women's Basketball Falls to #11 Morningside in NAIA National Tournament

SIOUX CITY, Iowa -- The 22-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team travled to Sioux City, Iowa to compete in the NAIA DII National Tournament, and dropped its first round contest to 11th-ranked Morningside (Iowa) with a score of 90-73.

After the first period, the Saints (24-10 overall) found themselves down 21-13. By halftime, SHU trailed by a 17 point margin, 40-23. Throughout the third quarter, the Saints battled and were able to lessen the Mustangs' advantage, but were not able to gain enough traction to make the comeback.

April Watson finished her career at Siena Heights with a double-double of 19 points and 17 rebounds. Demi Russell contributed 15 points off the bench, while Jaaliyah Arrington and Clara Waidley added 14 points and 11 points, respectively. Sharmaine Wills pulled down 13 rebounds and dished out four assists, along with Azalea Miller who also ended the night with four assists.  

Morningside (24-8 overall) was led by Madison Braun with 29 points and Lexi Ackerman who added 23 points for the Mustangs. Lauren Lehmkuhl led the Mustangs on the glass with 10 boards. 

With the loss, the Saints conclude the 2016-17 season.
