Arrington Scores 33 to Lift #22 Saints Over #17 Indiana Tech in WHAC Semifinals

FORT WAYNE, Ind. -- The No. 22 Siena Heights women's basketball team knocked off No. 17 Indiana Tech in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference tournament semifinals on Saturday. The Saints were able to come away with the 72-69 victory.

SHU (24-8 overall) scored the first five points of the game and held on to the lead until the eight minute mark in the second period, when ITU tied the score at 22. With seven minutes remaining in the first half, Indiana Tech took the lead at 24-23. But the Saints battled back and went into halftime after regaining the lead with a score of 37-34.

Siena Heights scored the first bucket of the second half on an April Watson lay-up and did not look back. SHU was able to hold off the Warriors and advance to the WHAC finals to face No. 7 Davenport.

Jaaliyah Arrington was on fire after shooting 12-16 (75%) from the field and going for 33 points, which is a new career high. Azalea Miller added 12 points, five rebounds and four assists, while Watson recorded another double-double by scoring 11 points and pulling down 12 rebounds. Demi Russell was able to contribute ten points and four rebounds off the bench.

Indiana Tech (25-7 overall) was led by Keanna Gary with 24 points and five rebounds. Taylor Seiss added 21 points for the Warriors. 

From the floor the Saints shot 27-42 (64.3%), 6-11 (54.5%) from three and 12-22 (54.5%) from the free throw line. ITU shot 23-58 (39.7%) from the field, 10-23 (43.5%) from behind the arc and 13-20 (65%).

The Saints will be back in action on Monday, Feb. 27, when they travel to take on No. 7 Davenport in the WHAC tournament finals.
