Miller, Arrington Lift Saints to Victory Over Madonna in Annual Pink Game

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team hosted Madonna in its annual Pink Game for breast cancer awareness on Saturday. The Saints were able to come away with the victory with a score of 95-91.

At the end of the first period, SHU (19-7, 12-6 WHAC) found themselves trailing by two points and were not satisfied. Going into halftime the Saints were walking to the lockeroom with a 46-42 advantage.

Madonna (13-10, 9-9 WHAC) scored the first bucket of the second half and would not go away. By end of three, the Crusaders had tied the score at 69-69. The score remained close throughout the fourth quarter, but the Saints were able to hang on for the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference victory.

Azalea Miller led the Saints with a career high, 21 points. She also added five assists and four rebounds. Also scoring in double figures for Siena Heights was Jaaliyah Arrington (19), Clara Waidley (16) and April Watson (13). Watson was the team leader on the glass with 11 rebounds.

The Crusaders were led by Michele Hayes with 23 points and a team high, three assists. Becca Sabol added 19 points and seven rebounds.

Siena Heights shot 48.5% (33-69) from the field, 55.6% (10-18) from behind the arc and 67.9 (19-28) from the free throw line. Madonna shot 51.5% (34-66), 52.2% (12-23) and 91.7% (11-12) from the charity stripe.

The Saints will be back in action on Wednesday, Feb. 8, when they travel to take on Aquinas in a WHAC contest. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
