Women's Basketball Defeats Madonna in WHAC Contest

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team defeated Madonna in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest with a score of 77-72.

The game was a battle from the start with scores and leads being traded. The Saints (11-5, 4-4 WHAC) went into halftime trailing the Crusaders by three, 37-34.

For the first bucket of the second half, Clara Waidley knocked down a three. Soon after, April Watson scored on a made layup, giving SHU the lead. From there, Siena Heights did not look back and was able to hold off MU and walk away with the victory.

April Watson led the Saints with 23 points and 11 rebounds. Ashley Perry added 15 points and five rebounds, while Sharmaine Wills contributed a game-high, 14 rebounds.

Michele Hayes and Becca Sabol both recorded 20 points for Madonna (7-6, 3-5 WHAC). Sabol finished with ten boards, leading the Crusaders.

Siena Heights edged Madonna from the field, shooting 39.1% (27-69) with MU shooting 32.2% (19-59). Madonna had the advantaged from behind the arc, shooting 25%, while the Saints shot just 17.6%.

SHU will be back in action on Wednesday, Jan. 4, when they host Aquinas in a WHAC contest. Tipoff is set for 6 p.m.
