Women's Basketball Defeats Governor's State in First Game of Thanksgiving Classic

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Siena Heights hosted Governor's State in their Siena Heights Thanksgiving Classic on Saturday. The Saints took down the Jaguars 65-63 in a tight battle. Also competing in the Classic are No. 13 Purdue Northwest (Ind.) and Keiser (Fla.).

Game one: Keiser (5-3 overall) vs. No. 13 Purdue Northwest (7-2 overall)
Keiser took on Purdue Northwest in the first contest of the Classic. The Pride defeated the Seahawks, 64-57.

Leading PNW was Darien Thompson with 20 points and Cassidy Deno with 18 points and 12 rebounds. 

For the Seahawks, Kaylee Patton finished with 15 points, while Princess Cole finished with 13 points and seven rebounds. 

Game two: Siena Heights (3-4 overall) vs. Governor's State (2-3 overall)
In the second game of the night, Siena Heights took on Governor's State (Ill.) and was able to walk away with a 65-63 victory.

The score was close throughout the first quarter with it being tied at 17-17 at the end of one. The Jaguars were able to create a lead throughout the second period and went into halftime, up seven with a score of 35-28.

The Saints came out with some fire in the second half, and regained the lead at 38-37 with 5:02 left in the third period on a free throw made by Azalea Miller. SHU went into the fourth with a seven point advantage. 

GSU fought back and grabbed the lead again with 5:42 left in the game with a score of 61-59, but the Saints were not finished yet. Siena Heights took the lead for the final time with 2:50 remaining in the game on a three-point basket made by Clara Waidley. SHU was able to hold off GSU for the victory.

Leading the Saints was Demi Russell with 13 points and six rebouds. She was closely followed by Azalea Miller with 12 points and a team high, four assists, and April Watson with 12 points and eight rebounds. 

GSU was led by Achuynna Robinson with 18 points and Amber Brooks with 17 points and ten rebounds. 

The Saints will be back in action Sunday, Nov. 27, with they take on No. 13 Purdue Northwest. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
