Women's Basketball Opens Season With a Win Over Spring Arbor

SPRING ARBOR, Mich. -- The Siena Heights women's basketball team opened their season at Spring Arbor on Wednesday and walked away with a convincing victory and a final score of 90-62.

The Saints held a four point lead after the first quarter but really began to open up their lead in the second, where they outscored the Cougars 21-11. Going into halftime, SHU had control of the lead with a score of 43-29. 

In the third, Siena Heights was able to push the lead to 67-40 after outscoring SAU again, 24-11 in the period. 

Jaaliyah Arrington led the Saints offense with 18 points and also contributing five rebounds. She was followed close behind in scoring by April Watson with 16 points and nine rebounds. Off the bench, Taylar McNeal added 12 points and nine rebounds.

Spring Arbor was led by Kylie Townsley with 14 points and six rebounds. Townsley was the only Cougar to score in double digits. Aimee Konkel and Rachel Nelson both added eight points for SAU.

Overall, Siena Heights shot 10-19 from three -- a whopping 52.6% from behind the arc. The hot three point shooting came from Arrington who was 4/9, and fellow senior Dynasty Washington who finished 3/3 from behind the long line for nine points. Clara Waidley also contributed a 3/5 shooting effort from three. 

The Siena Heights women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday, Nov. 12, when they travel to take on Cornerstone in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest. Tipoff is set for 3 p.m.
