#16 Women's Hoops Wins Pivotal Early-Season Matchup with #24 Cornerstone

ADRIAN, Mich. -- Sierra Calhoun compiled 23 points and seven rebounds as the 16th-ranked Siena Heights women's basketball team defeated 24th-ranked Cornerstone, 65-55, in a Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest on Tuesday at the SHU Fieldhouse.

Alexxis Knannlein added 11 points and six rebounds while Mackenzie Tomasik contributed nine points and six rebounds.

The Saints took the lead for good with a seven-point run in the first half. Later in the period, Calhoun and Jessie Arnold scored four points each during a 10-2 SHU stretch, helping the hosts to a 31-23 halftime lead.

A Calhoun layup gave Siena Heights its largest lead, 43-27, with 16:46 left in the contest. The Golden Eagles (4-3, 2-2) eventually closed its deficit to 61-54 with 33 seconds left, but that was as close as they would get.

Jill Hendrickson led CU with a double-double worth 14 points and seven rebounds. Mari Bugg and Emma Lockhart added 11 points apiece.

Siena Heights will return to action on Friday when it hosts the SHU Thanksgiving Tournament. The Saints will meet Rochester at 7 p.m. after Central Methodist (Mo.) and Calumet Saint Joseph (Ind.) play at 5 p.m.

Saturday's consolation game will take place at 2 p.m. and the championship game will follow at 4.
