Softball Falls Twice to Cleary in Non-Conference Double-Header

ADRIAN, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team hosted Cleary in a non-conference double-header on Tuesday. The Saints dropped both contests by scores of 10-3 in game one, and 1-0 in eight innings in game two.

A hot second inning helped lift the Cougars over the Saints giving them an early 6-0 lead. Cleary (27-12) scored again, twice in the fourth to give them a comfortable 8-0 advantage. In the fifth, the Saints crossed the plate scoring their first run of the game and closed the gap to 8-1. CU scored two more in the seventh but the Saints could only add two as well, and that would not be enough.

Going 3-for-4 at the plate were Kyndle Wolfinger and Hannah Bleikamp. Wolfinger scored two runs for the Saints as well, while Bleikamp added two RBI's. Pitching 2.2 innings and suffering the loss was Lesley Ducat. Kayla Kormos came in for relief and pitched 4.1 innings and recorded three strikeouts.

It took eight innings to settle game two after going scoreless through seven. In the eighth, Cleary scored the go-ahead run, and the Saints were not able to answer. Bleikamp went 2-for-4 at the plate with both of her hits being doubles. Lindsay Brandon pitched the full game and struck out five for Siena Heights (25-15-1).

Next up, the Saints will host Cardinal Stritch (Wisc.) in a non-conference double-header on Saturday, April 29. Game one is set to begin at 1 p.m.
