Softball Sweeps Lawrence Tech in WHAC Action

The Siena Heights Softball Team won two games against Lawrence Tech on Saturday afternoon, taking the first game 5-3, before winning in comeback fashion in eight innings 6-5 in game two.

In game one, the Saints scored solo runs in the third and fifth inning, before tacking on the final three in the sixth.  Lawrence Tech scored one in the sixth and two in the seventh.  On the mound, Lesley Ducat threw the first four innings, allowing two hits and striking out two for the win.  Kayla Kormos earned the save in relief with three innings to finish out the game.

Offensively, the Saints were led by their 3-4-5 hitters in Kris Forest, Megan Jones, and Hannah Bleikamp who each had two hits.  Kenya Keller, Kelsey Cherry, Ashley Helmink and Amy Nordstrom also had hits for the Saints.  Forest had two RBI, while Jones and Bleikamp each added solo RBI.  Keller and Forest each notched a double during the game.

In game two, the Saints scored the first run of the game in the second.  In the third and fourth Lawrence Tech scored three and two respectively.  In the top of the sixth, the Saints countered with three of their own before tacking on a solo run in the top of the seventh to push the game into extra innings, where they would score the final run in the eighth.

Lindsay Brandon threw the complete game for the Saints, scattering eight hits, allowing only three earned runs and striking out three.

At the plate, Kyndle Wolfinger was the only Saint to tally two hits, with Keller, Forest, Bleikamp, Brandon, and Hailey Fox also each adding hits.  Forest, Bleikamp, Cherry, Helmink, and Brandon had the Saints RBI.  Brandon had the biggest hit of the day with a homerun to start the seventh inning and tie the game.

With the wins, the Saints move to 24-10-1 on the season and 9-6-1 in the WHAC.  They will round out their conference season on Saturday and Sunday next weekend when they travel to Lourdes on Saturday, and then face Madonna at home on Sunday.
