Softball Drops a Pair to Aquinas in WHAC Play

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contest to Aquinas on Wednesday. First game ended after ten innings by a score of 3-1, before the second game finished with a score of 5-3.

In the first game, Siena Heights (21-9-1, 6-5-1 WHAC) opened scoring in the second inning and Aquinas did not answer until the sixth with a run of their own. In the tenth inning, Aquinas scored two runs and came away with the victory. Megan Jones and Hailey Fox both went 2-for-4 at the plate, while Jones scored the lone run for SHU. Ashley Nordstron knocked in the Saints only RBI. Lesley Ducat pitched the full game, suffering the loss and striking out six.

In game two of the double-header, the Saints opened scoing again, crossing the plate twice in the first inning. In the third, Siena Heights scored one more run before Aquinas (29-4-1, 9-3 WHAC) tied up the ball game with three runs scored in the third. AQ scored two more in the fourth and walked away with the victory. Kris Forest went 3-for-4 and scored one run. Skylar Crenshaw, Hannah Bleikamp and Megan Jones each finished with one RBI. Kayla Kormos pitched 3.1 innings and suffered the loss while striking out two. Lindsay Brandon came in to relieve Kormos and pitched 2.2 innings and struck out four. 

The Saints will be back in action on Thursday, April 13 when they host Concordia in a WHAC double-header set to start at 3 p.m.
