Softball Splits a Pair with Cornerstone

The Siena Heights Softball Team split a pair of WHAC games with Cornerstone on Saturday, dropping the first game 4-2 before winning the second game 6-3.

In game one, a rough first inning cost the Saints.  An inning which should have ended seeing only one run score, saw four runs come across, one earned and three unearned runs due to a couple Saints' errors.  Despite outhitting Cornerstone, the Saints were only able to push two runs across.  Lesley Ducat was the hard luck loser on the mound, throwing the complete game and striking out eight.  Offensively, Kelsey Cherry had the big hit with a two RBI triple.  Hannah Bleikamp and Cherry each had two hits while Kyndle Wolfinger, Megan Jones, Ashley Helmink and Hailey Fox had the other hits for the Saints.

In the second game, the Saints plated five runs in the first two innings, building a 5-3 lead after three, they tacked on an insurance run in the fifth.  Wolfinger paced the Saints with a 3-4 afternoon including two doubles and two RBI.  Forest, Fox, Cherry, and Amy Nordstrom also had hits for the Saints, while Jones and Bleikamp added the other Saints' RBI.  Lindsay Brandon started and threw the first two and one-third innings, Kayla Kormos earned the win coming on in relief in the third, allowing one hit and striking out three over her four and two-thirds innings.

The Saints record moves to 21-5-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the WHAC.  They will return to action on Sunday when they battle with #7 Davenport at 1 pm.
