Softball Drops Two to Aquinas

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team dropped a pair of Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference contests to Aquinas, 5-2 and 8-0, on Wednesday.

The Saints trailed 5-0 in the opener before pushing across two runs in the seventh. They had the tying run at the plate when the final out was made.

Kelsie Abbott and Kyndle Wolfinger had 2-for-3 games. Megan Jones went 2-for-4. Abbott and Jones had RBI singles during the SHU seventh.

Abbott was the losing pitcher; only two of the five Aquinas runs were charged to the SHU hurler. She gave up seven hits and recorded four strikeouts.

Ann Hardin batted 3-for-3 for Aquinas with a double and two runs. Kala Foerster also scored twice.

Aquinas pitcher Erika Whittington allowed two runs on 10 hits. She had four strikeouts and two walks.

Host Aquinas ended game two in five innings due to the run-rule.

Morgan Warfield was the losing pitcher for SHU (16-15, 4-8) and had the Saints' only hit on offense.

Chelsea McWain was 3-for-3 with two runs for Aquinas (17-17, 3-7). Heather Gusse added a 3-for-4 game with a run and three RBI. Foerster scored two runs and Jenn Woolard drove in two runs.

Caitlyn Hensel earned the win in the pitcher's circle. She allowed only one hit while recording 11 strikeouts.

Siena Heights will return this weekend with 1 p.m. WHAC doubleheaders against Cornerstone and Davenport on Saturday and Sunday, respectively.
