Softball Splits High-Scoring Doubleheader With UNOH

LIMA, Ohio -- The Siena Heights softball team split a high-scoring Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference doubleheader with Northwestern Ohio on Sunday, winning 16-6 and then losing 20-12.

The Saints trailed game one, 6-3, before exploding for a 10-run sixth inning. They tacked on three more runs in the seventh.

Skylar Crenshaw batted 4-for-4 with two runs, four RBI, one stolen base and her first collegiate home run. Hannah Bleikamp and Megan Jones added 3-for-5 games. Jones had two doubles, two runs and two RBI while Bleikamp finished with one double, three runs and two RBI.

Also for SHU, Kelsie Abbott went 2-for-3 with two runs and two RBI, Taylor Hayes batted 2-for-4 with one double, one run and four RBI, and Morgan Warfield finished 2-for-5 with one run.

Jones had an RBI groundout in the first inning and Crenshaw followed with a two-run homer in the second as the Saints trailed, 4-3, after two.

The host Racers increased their lead to 6-3 in the fifth before SHU's big inning.

In the sixth, Crenshaw had a pair of RBI singles while Abbott, Hayes and Bleikamp contrubuted two-run singles. Kenya Keller drew a bases-loaded walk.

Then, in the seventh, Hayes had a two-run double and Jones ripped an RBI double.

Warfield was the winning pitcher, allowing 11 hits. Of the six runs scored against her, five were earned. Abbott pitched the final two innings and recorded six consecutive outs.

Erin Glavin batted 3-for-3 for UNOH while Emily Rockman and Alyssa McQueen contributed 2-for-4 games and Megan Pflum went 2-for-3. Rockman had one double, two runs and three RBI. McQueen also doubled.

Losing pitcher Erica Gulik worked 5 1/3 frames, allowing seven runs on 10 hits.

In game two, Northwestern Ohio scored in all five innings, ending the shortened game on a run rule.

Warfield was 3-for-4 with a triple, double, two runs and one RBI. Jones went 2-for-4 with two doubles, one run and two RBI. Hayes added a 2-for-3 game with one run and two RBI, Bleikamp compiled a 1-for-2 game with her first college homer, two runs and two RBI, and Keller doubled.

Crenshaw and Mariah Boss had RBI singles in the second inning, but the Saints trailed 8-2 after two.

SHU then answered with an eight-run third inning to take a 10-8 lead. During the frame, Bleikamp pounded her two-run round-tripper, Abbott drew a bases-loaded walk, Hayes ripped a two-run single, Jones had a two-run double and Warfield smashed an RBI triple.

The Racers came back with five runs in their half of the third, taking a 13-10 advantage. They led the rest of the way.

SHU's final two runs came in the fourth with both Abbott and Kyndle Wolfinger scored on the same wild pitch with Abbott coming in from second.

Abbott suffered the loss in the pitcher's ricle, allowing 13 runs on 15 hits in 2 2/3 innings of work. She recorded three strikeouts and one walk.

McQueen went 4-for-4 for UNOH with four runs and three RBI. Kayley Keller added a 3-for-4 game with a homer, two doubles, one run and seven BI.

Chelsea Miller was the winning pitcher.

The Saints (16-13, 4-6) will return to action on Wednesday with a 3:30 p.m. WHAC doubleheader at Aquinas.
