Softball Falls Twice at Madonna

LIVONIA, Mich. -- The Siena Heights softball team suffered 7-1 and 2-1 losses to Madonna in Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference action on Sunday.

In the 7-1 opener, the Saints had only one hit -- a sixth-inning RBI double by Kelsie Abbott, which plated Mariah Boss in the sixth inning.

Prior to that, the host Crusaders (16-7-1, 2-0) plated seven runs during the first four innings.

Morgan Warfield was the losing pitcher. Of the seven Madonna runs, only four were earned. Warfield worked six innings, gave up 12 hits and recorded four strikeouts and three walks.

For Madonna, Bree Crampton gave up one run on one hit while finishing with 13 strikeouts and four walks. Mikey Kish (double), Emma Cook and Breanna Keethler had two hits apiece.

In the 2-1 nightcap, SHU (12-8, 0-2) was unable to battle back from an early 2-0 deficit.

Cook got MU on the board with a two-run single in the third inning.

During the Saints' sixth, the visitors assembled a bases-loaded threat. Boss scored on a wild pitch, trimming SHU's deficit to 2-1, but the Saints were unable to capitalize further.

Abbott batted 3-for-3 for Siena Heights while Morgan Kaiser went 3-for-3 for Madonna.

Abbott was the losing pitcher, giving up two runs on seven hits in six innings of work. She had four strikeouts.

Erin Combs earned the win for MU, allowing one run on five hits while tallying four strikeouts and two walks.
