Men's Cross Country Takes Eighth at The Calvin College Invitational

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- The Siena Heights men's cross country team finished eighth at the Calvin College Invitational, on Saturday.

SHU was led by Esrom Woldemichael who earned eighth place, finishing the eight kilometer course in 25:27.1. Unattached runner Zach Ripley the top-spot in 24:31.9, followed by Calvin runner Mark DeJong in 25:08.8. A total of 148 runners participated in this race.

Next up for the Saints was Anthony Vermilye, crossing the finish line in 25:51.2. Finishing in 40th and 45th was Liam Heaney at 26:45.3 and Bradley Bauer at 26:52.1, respectively. The final point earner for SHU was Jareb Duggan, earning 81st with a 27:48.5 finish.

Calvin won the event with a total time of 2:07:12, averaging 25:26 for the top-five runners. Top-NAIA finisher was Madonna at 2:10:49, 26:09 average, edging out No. 5 Cornerstone by two points and only one second (2:10:50 - 26:10 average). Indiana Tech and No. 21 Aquinas also finished ahead of the Saints, averaging 26:15 and 26:30, respectively.

Siena Heights will return to action on Friday, Sept. 15, at the National Catholic Invitational in South Bend, Ind.
