Woldemichael Places Third as Men's XC Finishes Second at WHAC Championship

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. -- Esrom Woldemichael finished third individually to help the Siena Heights men's cross country team to a second place finish in the Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference Championship on Saturday.

Woldemicheal came in third place, crossing the finish line at 25:55.6 on the wet, muddy 8k course. Winner Tony Floyd from Madonna finished in 25:40.1.

Coming in at 26:13.3 for the Saints was Stephen Merchant to take sixth place. In 12th place was Kyler Vanwormer, finishing in 26:34.0.

The final two Saints crossing the finish line were Anthony Vermilye in 19th and Timothy Young in 22nd. Vermilye came in at 26:51.8 as Young finished in 26:59.2.

As a team, Siena Heights finished with a total time of 2:12:34.1 and 62 points beating NAIA No. 17 Cornerstone and No. 18 Aquinas. Indiana Tech won with a team time of 2:12:04.3 and 50 points.

Earning All-WHAC First Team honors for the Saints was Esrom Woldemichael and Stephen Merchant. Kyler Vanwormer earned All-WHAC Second Team honors.

The Saints await their fate, waiting for an at-large bid to go to Elash, Ill. for the NAIA Cross Country Championship.
