Men's XC Takes Second at Jayhawk Invitational

MUSKEGON, Mich. -- Esrom Woldemichael was the top-finisher for the Siena Heights men's cross country team as the Saints took second place in a 17-team field at the Jayhawk Cross Country Invitational, on Friday.

Woldemicheal finished the eight kilometer course in 26:10.34 for 15th place. Close behind was Stephen Merchant who crossed the finish line in 26:20.37 for the Saints.

Out of 189 runners, first place was claimed by unattached runner Abe Visser, who finished in 24:50.39.

Finishing in 21st place was Kyler Vanwormer in 26:25.05 for SHU. Anthony Vermilye took 27th with a time of 26:40.73 for the Saints. 

The final SHU score came from Nicholas Barth, finishing in 29:11.77.

As a team, the Saints compiled a time of 2:14:48.26 for an average time of 26:57.65.

Next up, Siena Heights will travel to Grand Rapids, Mich. for the NAIA Great Lakes Challenge on Saturday, Oct. 22.
