Saints Suffer Lose in Straight Sets on the Road

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team suffered a loss in straight sets on the road against Wolverine-Hoosier Athletic Conference (WHAC) member Goshen on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (5-2, 1-2 WHAC) lost their first match in straight sets this season and the first loss on the road in 2022.

Ramon Matos was the lone member on the team to register double-digit kills with 11. Zak Tucker was responsible for 23 assists and three digs, while Joudiel Poveymirow led the defensive effort with ten digs.

Siena jumped to a 9-6 lead early in the first before a 4-0 run by the Maple Leafs flipped the advantage to the home team (10-9). The Saints tied the score after a break in the action before a 7-2 split for Goshen put things at 17-12. The margin widened after another 4-0 run gave the Maple Leafs the setpoint and a 24-17 lead. Two points later, Goshen held a 1-0 advantage.

The second set went much the same way, with a 3-0 run giving the home team a 13-10 lead before six-straight points ended things with a 25-17 decision to the Maple Leafs and a 2-0 deficit for the Saints.

Another 3-0 run for Goshen broke a tie at 11 before another large run of eight-straight points put SHU nine points down while facing match point before the Maple Leafs earned a kill that ended the match after the third set.
