Men's Volleyball Falls to Benedictine-Mesa in First Round of NAIA Invitational Independents Qualifier

SYLVANIA, Ohio – The Siena Heights men's lacrosse team fell 3-0 to Benedictine-Mesa (Ariz.) in the first round of the 2018 NAIA Invitational Independents Qualifier, on Friday. Set scores were 25-8, 27-25 and 27-25.

GAME ONE: Benedictine-Mesa 25, Siena Heights 8
The game started out close but slowly went out of reach as the Redhawks went on a six-point then nine-point run to lead 19-4 over the Saints. BENU-Mesa coasted to the 25-8 victory.

GAME TWO: Benedictine-Mesa 27, Siena Heights 25
Again, the set started out close as SHU led 8-6. Benedictine came back to tie it at 10, eventually taking the lead a 16-15. SHU tied it again and kept it close at 25-25, but the Redhawks closed out the set with the final two points to earn the 27-25 game.

GAME THREE: Benedictine-Mesa 27, Siena Heights 25
In the final set of action, Siena Heights (19-6) tied the game at 7-7 then took an 11-8 lead. That would be traded for a 13-11 BENU-Mesa lead, which the Saints answered as they tied it at 13-13. SHU went into the final points with a 24-22 lead, but was unable to hold as the Raven came out with the 27-25 victory.

Leading the Saints with 14 kills was Kyle Browne, also earning eight digs to lead SHU. Keegan Crawford earned 29 assists and three digs to help the Saints as Tyler Hubbard-Neil had two service aces.

Benedictine-Mesa (18-6) was led by Logan Adcock with 15 kills and three digs while Jaron Jones earned 36 assists and 13 digs. Trevon Clizbe also managed 10 kills for the Redhawks.

Next up, the Saints will face the loser of the Lourdes (Ohio) and Hope International (Calif.) contest. The consolation match is set for 10 a.m. on Saturday.
