Men's Volleyball Splits Day Two of SHU Invitational; Hubbard-Neil, Browne Named to All-Tournament Team

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's volleyball split the final day of action at the SHU Invitational, on Saturday, in non-conference matches against Lawrence Tech and Ottawa (Ariz.). The Saints swept LTU 3-0 before falling, 3-1, to Ottawa (Ariz.).

In the first match of the day, SHU (16-5) took down Lawrence Tech in three sets with scores of 25-13, 25-16 and 25-20. The Saints kept the Blue devils quiet throughout the match, as SHU kept the gap at four points or more the majority of the set.

Leading the Saints with 10 kills and nine digs was Tyler Hubbard-Neil. Alex Garavalia managed seven kills for the Saints as Ryan Haftner earned six kills and seven digs. With 11 digs each was Jack Pranckus and setter Keegan Crawford, also tallying 11 digs. LTU (8-21) was led by Joshua Eckert with eight kills and 14 digs. Setters Jacob Paige and Gospel Sua earned 13 and 12 assists, respectively.

SHU started the match against Ottawa with a 3-0 run, but were unable to hold the lead as the Spirit tied it up 11-11. A five-point run by OU put the game out of reach for SHU, falling 25-20. With a 4-4 tie in the second game, SHU went on a six-point run to earn a 10-4 lead, which they held on to for the remainder of the game.

The Saints started the third set strong, but were unable to hold on as the Spirit tied it 11-11. The remainder of the game was tight, but OU (14-9) earned the win with back-to-back points at 25-23. The Spirit jumped to a quick lead in the final set, SHU came within three points at 18-21 but were unable to battle back as OU took the set 25-20.

Kyle Browne led the Saints with 20 kills followed closely by Hubbard-Neil with 17 kills. Crawford held a team-high 36 assists and 19 digs as libero Pranckus managed 11 digs. Three OU athletes earned doubl-digit kills, led by James Yahner with 13. Andrew De'Leon tallied 40 assists as two Spirits had 11 digs.

Named to the All-Tournament from SHU was Hubbard-Neil and Browne. Also making the team was Kory Peterson and Joaquin Santa Cruz from Ottawa, Manny Andrade from Judson, Rafael Cruz from Campbellsville and Alejandro Gonzalez from Lawrence Tech.

Siena Heights will return to action on Wednesday as the Saints host Lourdes in a 7 p.m. conference contest.
