Men's Volleyball Sweeps Campbellsville and Judson in Day One of SHU Invitational

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's volleyball team swept Campbellsville (Ky.) and Judson (Ill.) in the first day of competition at the Siena Heights Men's Volleyball Invitational, on Friday.

Match one was against Campbellsville with set scores of 25-23, 25-23, 25-16 where the Saints swept all three. After a game break, Siena Heights took down Judson in convincing fashion with two 25-10 wins followed by a 25-11 victory.

The majority of the first two sets against Campbellsville (13-12) were fairly even. SHU earned a seven-point lead in the first game was the largest lead of the two sets, which the Tiger cut down quickly. Siena Heights again held a 24-19 lead, followed by four consecutive points by CU but the comeback was shutdown with a kill from Tyler Hubbard-Neil. SHU went out quickly in the third set with a 9-3 lead and gradually built on from there for the 25-16 win.

Hubbard-Neil earned 16 kills against the Tigers while tying for a team-high seven digs along with Kyle Browne, who managed 12 kills. Keegan Crawford earned 33 assists for SHU. The Tigers were led by Rafael Cruz and Shmuel Edney-Williams with nine and eight kills, respectively. Jeremy Hernandez had 31 assists as Stefan Sretenovic managed eight digs.

Against Judson, Siena Heights (15-4) maintained control of the match from start to finish. In game one, Keegan Crawford served for 10 straight points to give SHU the jump and win 25-10. The Saints started game two with a 5-0 start and ended with a six-point serving streak from Justin Gray. Siena Heights began game three with a 6-0 run then jumped out to a 14-3 lead and held on from there.

Again leading SHU was Hubbard-Neil with nine kills as Emmanuel Chaidez managed seven kills. Jack Pranckus finished with nine kills while Crawford earned 23 assists and six digs. Hubbard-Neil also added seven assists for the Saints. For the Eagles (4-23), Manny Andrade and Jordan Von Borstel each earned five kills as Ryan VanThyne had 12 assists.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday with matches against Lawrence Tech and Ottawa (Ariz.) starting at noon.
