Men's Volleyball Goes 2-1 at Campbellsville Tournament

CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – The Siena Heights men's volleyball team finished 2-1 at the Campbellsville Tournament, on Friday and Saturday. SHU swept Judson (Ill.) and Campbellsville (Ky.) and fell 3-1 to Robert Morris (Ill.).

MATCH ONE – Siena Heights 3, Judson 0 – Set scores: 25-20, 25-20, 25-11
The first two sets stated out close prior to the Saints going on multiple multi-point runs and holding Judson to lone points to earn SHU wins. An early five-point streak set SHU ahead in the final set prior to managing more multi-point streaks to take the win.

Leading the Saints with 12 kills was Alex Garavalia. Close behind was Tyler Hubbard-Neil with 11 kills and four digs. Jack Pranckus led SHU in digs with five as Keegan Crawford earned 30 assists in the match.

MATCH TWO – Robert Morris 3, Siena Heights 1 – Set scores: 25-22, 23-25, 20-25, 12-25
The game started out close until the Saints managed an 8-3 run where they took a 13-9 lead over the Eagles. Siena Heights was able to hang on for the remainder of set one to take a win.

In game two, the Saints started out on top but were unable to hold on as RMU tied it 22-22 and eventually won with a Colby Magorien kill. In the final two sets, the Eagles had an early lead and kept control of the games through the end of the match.

Hubbard-Neil and Kyle Browne each managed 14 kills for the Saints, earning 10 and 6 digs, respectively. Crawford earned 33 kills as Pranckus managed 10 digs in the back row.

MATCH THREE – Siena Heights 3, Campbellsville 0 – Set scores: 25-17, 25-18, 25-21
To start the first game, the Tigers and Saints went point-for-point until SHU broke away with a three-point streak to take the 13-10 lead, followed by another five-point run to put the Saints at a comfortable 18-11 lead, which they held through the game.

Another close set was underway before SHU scored seven in a row to shut down the Tigers. In the final set, the Saints took control early and held on through the remainder of the match.

SHU (8-2) was led by Hubbard-Neil with 11 kills, followed by Browne with five kills, each earning seven digs. Pranckus finished with 11 kills as Crawford earned 21 assists.

The Saints will return to action on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 23-24, in a tri-match hosted by Lawrence Tech. SHU will face Robert Morris and LTU on Friday at 6 p.m. and 8 p.m., respectively. Saturday, Siena Heights will take on Cincinnati Christian (Ohio) at 11 a.m.
