Men's Volleyball Splits Day Two of the SHU Tournament

ADRIAN, Mich. – The Siena Heights men's volleyball team split the final day of Siena Heights Tournament action, defeating Campbellsville (Ky.) 3-0 before falling 3-1 to Cardinal Stritch (Wis.), on Saturday.

Siena Heights 3, Campbellsville 0 – 25-20, 25-14, 25-21

The Saints started off the first set with a strong 4-0 lead and were able to control the lead through the remainder of the game. The second set was close at the beginning until SHU went on multiple streaks of three or more unanswered points to win the game. In the final set, Siena Heights jumped out to an 8-4 lead that would hold for the remainder of the game to take the match.

Tyler Hubbard-Neil led the Saints with nine kills and eight digs while Ryan Hafner managed eight kills. Keegan Crawford earned 40 assists in the match with nine digs, three total blocks and two aces.

For the Tigers, Adam Conklin made 11 kills as Rafael Cougill finished with 10 kills. Noel Camello earned 11 digs for CU and Hunter Monday earned 24 assists.

Cardinal Stritch 3, Siena Heights 1 – 21-25, 25-17, 18-25, 20-25

After a 6-12 deficit in the first set, the Saints came within two points at 12-14 before eventually falling 25-21. SHU took an early lead in set two, going up 8-4 and extending their lead throughout set two to win it by eight points.

The third game was close until the Wolves went on a 7-0 run, a lead that held through the remainder of the set. In the final set, Cardinal Stritch jumped to an early 9-0 lead over SHU. Siena Heights fought back, coming within three points, but it wasn't enough as the Wolves claimed the match.  

Leading the Saints was Matthew Dugan with 18 kills and 19 digs. Hubbard-Neil and Julian Ayar earned 11 and 10 kills, respectively, also adding four and three total blocks. Crawford ended the match with 50 assists and seven digs.

Cardinal Stritch was led by Caleb Moore and Joao Neto Sales with 20 and 14 kills, respectively. Jode Duda earned 42 assists and 13 digs. Neto Sales tacked on 12 digs while Michael Burke made 10 blocks.

Siena Heights will be back in action on Thursday when the Saints host Robert Morris (Ill.) for a 7 p.m. contest.
