Men's Volleyball Overwhelms CCSJ with 3-0 Sweep

WHITING, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's volleyball team swept Calumet St. Joseph 3-0 in a non-conference contest, on Saturday. Set scores were 25-16, 25-9, and 25-12.

The Saints (2-0) were led by Tyler Hubbard-Neil with five kills, nine digs, one ace and a block. Chris Horner also had five kills and two blocks.

Emilier DeJesus had 11 assists and four digs, while Keegan Crawford tacked on eight assists and four digs. 

On the Calumet (0-1) side of the net, Trevor Wagner had 13 kills and three digs. Jose Gonzales had two kills, two assists and five digs.

SET- BY- SET

Set One: Siena Heights 25, Calumet 16

The first set was back-and-forth until the Saints took a 4-0 run earning them a  10-6 lead. Kills by Matthew Dugan and John Kalugar helped put the Saints up 17-10. Another 4-0 run put the Saints up 21-11 before they claimed the first match on two Calumet errors.

Set Two: Siena Heights 25, Calumet 9

The second set was not much of a contest as the Saints cruised to an early 11-3 lead. A 7-0 run put the Saints up 20-6. Julian Ayers added two kills and a final kill from Hubbard-Neil put the Saints up two sets to zero.

Set Three: Siena Heights 25, Calumet 12

The third match was looking similar to the first when the Saints jumped out to a 7-1 run. Calumet brought the match to 8-4 before the Saints took off on a 6-0 run to give them a 22-7 lead. Kalugar slammed down the final point to earn SHU a match win. 

The Saints will travel to Campbellsville (Ky.) for a tournament on Friday, January 27 & 28. They will face Bryan (Tenn.) at 5 p.m. on Saturday. On Sunday, SHU will take on Campbellsville (Ky.) and Cardinal Stritch (Wis.) at 11 a.m and 1 p.m. respectively.
