Saints score late goal to beat UM-Dearborn

Adrian, Mich. The Siena Heights men's soccer team scored a late goal in the game to push ahead and beat UM-Dearborn

The Basics:

Final Score: Siena Heights 3 UM-Dearborn 2

Location: Adrian, Mich. (O'Laughlin Stadium)

Records: SHU (5-5-1) UMD (4-5-1)

How It Happened:

The Saints were able to get on the board first in the game as in the 27th minute Chris Ornelas (Junior, Belding, Mich.) scored a goal courtesy of an assist from Brent Rodden (Senior, Taylor, Mich.). However, the Wolverines would strike back later in the half and tie the game up.

Going into the second half the Saints were outshooting the Wolverines 11-4. Justin Gray (Sophomore, Fraser, Mich.) scored to give SHU the lead in the 65th minute. Just like the first half UM-Dearborn would score again to tie the game up.

Just as it looked like this game was going into overtime, Matt Lentine (Senior, Fraser, Mich.) scored in the 89th minute to seal the win for the Saints.

Top Saints:

  • Ornelas scored his fourth goal of the season
  • Gray netted his third goal on the season
  • Lentine was able to get his 14th career goal

The Opposition:

  • Jacob Drzyzga and Ali Khcheiche were the two Wolverines to score a goal

The Siena Heights University men's soccer team will be back in action on Friday Oct. 5th, 2018. The Saints will host Indiana Tech at 4pm.
