Saints Tie Cleary to Begin Conference Play

Adrian, Mich. The Siena Heights men's soccer team started off conference play with a tie to Cleary (Mich.).

The Basics:

Final Score: Siena Heights 2 Cleary 2

Location: Adrian, Mich. (O'Laughlin Stadium)\

Records: SHU (3-4-1) Cleary (1-2-1)

How It Happened:

The Saints and Cougars battled back and forth all game which eventually lead to a tie. The Saints got outshot by Cleary 12 to 11. However, out of 12 of those Cleary shots, five of them were on goal.

The Cougars scored first in the 8th minute but shortly after Matt Lentine (Senior, Fraser, Mich.) scored a goal courtesy of a pass by Matt Wilkie (Senior, Utica, Mich.). The Saints would strike again in the 39th minute as Arthur Aires (Junior, Sao Paulo, Brazil) scored a goal to take the lead. Cleary would unfortunately though score another goal in the second period which would end the scoring on the day.

After double overtime ended there was still no winner make the game a draw.

Top Saints:

  • Lentine scored his second goal of the season
  • Aires scored his first goal as a member of the SHU Saints men's team
  • Leo Hisamatsu (Junior, Osaka, Japan) made seven saves during the game in goal

The Opposition:

  • Evan Imms and Benjamin Delage each scored a goal for the Cougars
  • Marc Hodges made three saves in goal for Cleary

The Siena Heights University men's soccer team will travel to Rochester College on Wednesday, September 26, 2018. Kickoff is scheduled for 1:30PM
