Saints Get a Tough Loss in OT

Adrian, Mich. The Siena Heights University men's soccer team finally had their home opener today after spending 7 games on the road. The Saints paired up against St. Francis (Ind.) this afternoon as the game needed to be settled in overtime.

The Basics:

Final Score: Siena Heights 2 St. Francis 3

Location: Adrian, Mich. (O'Laughlin Stadium)

Records: SHU (3-4-0) SFU (3-3-0)

How It Happened:

The Saints and Cougars battled back and forth all game with tough play. Siena was able to strike first quickly in the first half courtesy of Elmedin Celovic (Senior, East Lansing, Mich.). Celovic scored an unassisted goal to put the Saints up in the first half. Later in the first half, two Cougars were able to score to make it a 2-1 game heading into halftime.

The second half was very physical as each team suffered some fouls and yellow cards. In the 77th minute Matt Lentine (Senior, Fraser, Mich.) scored on a pass from Artur Becker (Junior, Novo Hamburgo, Brazil) to tie up the match. After 90 minutes of play, the game was heading into overtime.

Overtime only took 2 minutes in to settle a winner. St. Francis drew a foul which lead to a penalty kick. The Cougars would score that golden goal in OT to win the game.

Top Saints:

-Celovic scored his first goal of the season

-Lentine was able to score a goal today giving him a total of 11 career goals

The Opposition:

-Ethan Vigario, Ernesto Cuellar, and Julian Colantonio all scored a goal for St. Francis today

-Braden Conn earned the win in goal today for the Cougars

The Saints will take on Cleary on Saturday, Sept. 22 here at O'Laughlin Stadium. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 PM
