Saints Win in Double Overtime

Portsmouth, Ohio The Siena Heights men's soccer team gets a thrilling win over Shawnee St. in double overtime. The game was held scoreless all the way till Robin Bopeso (Junior, Ivry-Sur-Seine, France) scored in the 104th minute to give the saints the victory. 

The Basics:

 

Final Score: Siena Heights 1, Shawnee St 0

Location: Portsmouth, Ohio (Shawnee Turf)

Records: SHU (2-2-0) Shawnee St. (2-2-0)

How It Happened: 

Siena Heights and Shawnee St. battled back and fourth all game which lead to them settling the game in double overtime. In the first half both team were even in total shot and corner kicks. Each team was able to put four shots up but none could land in the back of the net. Both teams had their chance at corner kick goals also in the first half as each team had three chances. 

During the second half, the saints contiuned to put shots up but could not land any goals. Leading the team in shots was Matt Lentine (Senior, Fraser, Mich.) and Brent Rodden (Senior, Taylor, Mich.) who each had four. After the game could not be settled in 90 minutes, the game headed into overtime. Shawnee St. had three shots but could not score. Andrew Kozan (Sophomore, Canton, Mich.) was able to make four saves in the game to keep the bears off the scoreborad. Once the game headed into double overtime the saints had their scoring chance as Lentine delivered a ball to Bopeso who would capitalize on the chance to score the games first and last goal. 

Top Saints:

-Robin Bopeso scored a goal which was his first game winning goal of the season

-Matt Lentine had one assist 

-Andrew Kozan made 4 saves and earned a shutout

The Opposition: 

-The bears were lead offensively by Kevin Delang who had 3 shots on the day

-In goal for Shawnee St. was Kade Thomlinson who was able to make 11 saves

Siena Heights travel to Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio) on Wednesday Sept. 5, 2018. Kickoff is schduled for 7:00pm EST.
