Saints get first loss of the season

Indianapolis, Ind. The Siena Heights University men's soccer team took their first loss of the season against Marian (Ind.) by a score of 3-2. Two saints scored for Siena during the game but it wasn't enough.

The Basics:

Final Score: Siena Heights 2, Marian (Ind.) 3

Location: Indianapolis, Ind. (St. Vincent Field)  

Records: SHU (1-1-0) Marian (1-1-0)

How It Happened:

Marian was able to start tonight's scoring off in the 11th minute as Hamed Sidibe netted a ball to give the Knights the lead.

The Saints would shortly strike back as they scored their first goal to tie it up. Justin Gray (Senior, Fraser, Mich.) scored his second goal of the season. Marian would score 2 more goals to make the score 3-1 heading into halftime.

Marian continued to put up shots against Siena during the second half but goalkeeper Andrew Kozan (Sophomore, Canton, Mich.) was able to make two saves to hold off the Knights. SHU would capitalize on their scoring chance in the 83rd minute as Chris Ornelas (Junior, Belding, Mich.) successfully scored on his free kick.

Siena Heights would try to battle back late in the game but could not net any goals.

Top Saints:

-Gray scored his second goal of the season as well as had 3 shots on goal

-Ornelas scored his first goal of the season

The Opposition:

-Sidibe scored two goals on the day and was able to put 6 total shots up

-In goal for the Knights, Sidney Miranda made 5 saves and got the win

Siena Heights will travel to Milligan College in Tennessee. Saints take on the Buffalos this Saturday, Sept. 1, in Elizabethton, TN. Kickoff is scheduled for 7:00 p.m., EST.
