Men's Soccer Drops Season Opener to Goshen

GOSHEN, Ind. -- The Siena Heights men's soccer team dropped their season opener to Goshen (Ind.), 2-0, in a non-conference contest, on Wednesday.

SHU fought hard in the first half, keeping the score tied at 0-0 even though the Maple Leafs outshot the Saints 11-5 with GC earning nine corner kicks.

In the 61st-minute, Stuart Aeschliman finished a cross from Ethan Francois-Ravalier on top of the six-yard box to earn the lead for Goshen, 1-0. The Saints evened out the shots the remainder of second half, outshooting Goshen, 9-8, but were unable to capitalize. The Maple Leafs' Alejandro Rosales netted an insurance goal in the 89th-minute from Aeschliman to end the game.

Leading the Saints (0-1) with three shots each was Brent Rodden, Chris Ornelas and Enoch Tsibu-Beckson. Aeschliman led Goshen with six shots, including two shots on frame.

Morgen Gardocki made seven saves in net for Siena Heights while Johan Escalante stopped three shots for the Maple Leafs (1-1). SHU was outshot, 19-14, by GC. Goshen held a 10-5 corner kick advantage.

Siena Heights will return to action on Saturday in the home opener against Mount Vernon Nazarene (Ohio). Kickoff is slated for 4:30 p.m.
